Artist's Statement
" "
I'm Colorado artist Carl Bandy.
For over thirty years I've created
spiritual Southwest art accompanied by
words I’ve written that are intended to inspire,
encourage and heal–
all the while, celebrating the power of Love.
My creative spark comes from
Mesa Verde, Native American spirituality,
my friends and especially
the love I have for my wife and Muse, Arlene.
My images honor life,
love. romance, families and children.

As far as a the reason for bas relief
as a sculptural form
I love the way bas- relief blurs the boundaries
between two and three dimensions.
Hand-carving scenes in mahogany,
then creating castings of those images
creates an enigmatic effect.
Chiseled rock-like surfaces, wood grain, Alabaster(Gypsum powder,) and paper fibers
combine in a multi- textured interplay
of light and shadow.

Description
This is a brand new limited edition of 100 hand cast paper sculptures. It is an image of the Taos Pueblo a World Heritage site continually inhabited by the   Native American Tiwa people of Northern New Mexico. This Pueblo (village) the only living UNESCO World Heritage site and has been continuously inhabited for over seven centuries. I began by carving a 17" x 47"x 6" huge piece of Honduran mahogany to create the original or "". Much as a bronze artist begins with clay or wax originals, I begin with wood. After several months of carving the sculpture i ready for the mold-making process This takes about ten days. T hen I hand cast about 15 gallons of cotton and abaca fibers into the mold and wait 2 week is for the paper to dry (slowly, so it won't warp. Then I take the casting out and find out if all the previous effort were successful. If they were, I sign and seal the casting in a UV protective coating. Hang them in strong light to get the maximum effect of light and shadows (they don't fade) and enjoy, knowing that only 99 other people in the world will have one of these unique sculptures...

around fifty five living areas and six kivas
Most of the rooms squeezed onto the narrow upper ledge
were for storage, only a few were living rooms.

Pottery sherds found here
have given archaeologists invaluable information
about the people who lived here
more than 800 years ago.

Open edition-

We, the Peoples of the Earth all began
as gatherers of Mother Earth’s bounty
and stewards of her resources.
As we detached from her and built he towns & cities,
we have forgotten that our existence relies on
how we use her gifts.
She hasn’t forgotten. and is always there
to teach us that on our Journey as humans,
we all harvest the seeds we sow.
Let us sow that which nurtures Good
and honors Mother Earth
and the Creator.

Description
These doorways at Pueblo Bonito
in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico
speak of paths taken and
paths we have yet to choose.
We can look back through
the doorways of our past to
reflect and learn,
so we can go forward
through the doors
of hopes and dreams.
